WMS Names a New “Friend of Manufacturing Award”

Washington Manufacturing Services (WMS) has awarded its third annual “Friends of Manufacturing” award to state Rep. Maralyn Chase of the 32nd Legislative District.

The award recognizes a person in government who has worked for the advancement of manufacturing in Washington State.

“Representative Chase has done a remarkable job in supporting small manufacturers in Washington State,” said John Vicklund, President of Washington Manufacturing Services.  “She has worked tirelessly to ensure that small manufacturers are supported and has advanced legislation to assist manufacturing workers, manufacturing expansion and organizations that champion manufacturers.”

“I’m thrilled to receive this honor for my support of small businesses,” said Chase, D-Edmonds. “No one works harder for small manufacturers in our state than Washington Manufacturing Services, so being recognized by them means more than I can say.”

In Shoreline, WMS has been a key partner of the Center for Manufacturing Excellence at Shoreline Community College.

Phil Savereux, the director of the Center for Manufacturing Excellence at Shoreline Community College, said, "It is good news for Shoreline Community College that one of our key partners in our Center of Excellence for Manufacturing, the Washington Manufacturing Services, has been declared the official manufacturing resource for the state after both the Senate and House unanimously passed Bill 2726.

In 2006, Chase successfully sponsored legislation (HB 2726) that recognizes WMS as the official manufacturing resource center. This official status will enable WMS to access additional Federal Grant funding and provide even more support for manufacturers in Washington.

Chase was also a strong supporter of the new Washington Customized Employment Workforce Training program sponsored by Sen. Paull Shin, D-Edmonds. Shin’s measure (SB 6326) enables manufacturers and community colleges to jointly develop customized workforce training programs that are partly financed by business and occupation tax credits.
